Alan Johnson Shines On Autograph Night At Outlaw Speedway
Story By: PAUL SZMAL / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – NAPA Auto Parts and Watkins Glen NAPA presented Family Autograph Night at Outlaw Speedway, and fans enjoyed an on-track autograph session prior to the night’s feature events. Cooler temperatures made the evening comfortable as the on track action heated up in the main events.
In the Friendly Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Outlaw Modified feature, Cory Costa jumped into the lead early and after a few restarts was able to pull away to almost a straightaway lead over a battle between Tyler Siri and Alan Johnson. As the second half of the race ran caution free, Johnson broke away from Siri, who lost third to Matt Sheppard. Costa ran up on traffic in the final laps, which allowed Johnson to close in. Johnson snuck inside Costa on turn two of the last lap to take the win by a car length at the line.
Sheppard, Siri, and Steve Paine rounded out the top five.
Friendly Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Outlaw Modified heats were won by Steve Paine, Joe Dgien, and Tyler Siri.
A wild multi-car crash involved over half the field at the start of the Crate Sportsman feature, with Brent Ayers and Jimmy Zacharias Jr. both flipping. Several cars were heavily damaged in the crash and unable to continue. When racing resumed after the cleanup, Frank Guererri Jr and Todd Hayward distanced themselves from the pack and battled till a lap 18 yellow closed up the field. Chris Fisher used the outside lane to take the lead on lap 21 and held on for the win over Guererri, Hayward, Brian Fish, and Loren Lincoln.
Crate Sportsman heats were won by Frank Guererri Jr, Brent Ayers, and Mike Buchanan.
The Crate Late Model feature saw Chad Homan run down Brian Knowles past hte halfway point and cruise home for the victory. Jamie Freeman finished in third.

Early leader Rich Karlnoski spun out of the lead on lap 3 of the Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature, handing Brad Smith the top spot. Ward took the lead on the restart and Smith battled with him till they made contact on lap 11, sending Smith into a spin. Ward pulled away on the restart to take the victory over Rodney Morgan, with Shawn Bruce holding off Brandon Smith for fourth. Billy Ward took the fifth spot.
Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified heats were won by Billy Ward and Rich Michael Jr.
In the Street Stock feature event, Glenn Whritenour came from his 11th starting spot to take the lead from Carl Cleveland on lap 7. Dylan Cecce came from 12th to battle Whritenour for the lead, taking it in traffic on lap 16. Cecce held off Whritenour on a final restart for his second win in a row, followed by Whritenour, Quinn Sutherland, Cleveland, and CJ Guererri.
Street Stock heats were won by Jared Hill and Carl Cleveland.
Adam Austin made a daring 4-wide pass on the opening lap of the 4 Cylinder feature to take the lead from Scott Lehman. Austin was able to pull a big lead on Lehman under green, but had to hold on through several restarts to bring home his second win in a row. Lehman held off a late race charge from Chris Woodard to take second, followed by Shawn Gleason and Mike Stone.
4 Cylinder heats were won by Scott Lehman, Adam Austin, and Shawn Gleason.
The Marion Decker Agency Hobby Stock feature found Jason Clugstone battling hard with Aaron Miller until Clugstone pitted on lap 9 with an issue. Miller led until Marc Minutolo used to outside to pass him on lap 15. Miller made one last charge at the leader on a lap 18 restart, but Minutolo held him off for the win. Jason Thomas, Harod Fenton Jr, and Doug Dekay rounded out the top five.
Marion Decker Agency Hobby Stock heats were won by Aaron Miller and Eric Williams.
In the Winner’s Circle Deli Bandit feature, Austin LaBar and Cameron Nichols made contact racing for the win in the final two turns, with LaBar hanging on for the win over Steven Perkins III while Nichols finished third.
The Rookie Sportsman feature was dominated by Alex Payne, who took the win over Andy Krall and Jeremy Bunn.
The next event at Outlaw Speedway will be the ‘Ultimate Outlaw 100’ for the Super DIRTcar Series on Tuesday, July 10th.
The Outlaw Sportsman Series and Street Stocks will complete the night’s card. There will be no racing at the speedway on
