Empire Super Sprints Set To Tackle Airborne Park Speedway
Story By: ROBBY KNOWLES / AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY – PLATTSBURGH, NY – The always fast and exciting 360 sprint cars will invade Airborne Park Speedway this Saturday night.
This will be the first of two stops at Airborne in 2018 for the Empire Super Sprints. After Saturday, they won’t return until September 23, when they compete in the American/Canadian Sprint Car Clash.
Last season when the Empire Super Sprints took to the speedway, Matt Tanner of Stephentown, NY collected the checkered flag. The youngster, Paulie Colagiovanni was running down Tanner in the late stages of the event but hooked his left front tire on the inside berm, which cost him several car lengths.
The Empire Super Sprints’ 2018 campaign is already six races in and they have had five different winners. The defending champion, Jason Barney has won two events this season, while Paul Kinney, Steve Poirier, Danny Varin and Mark Smith have each collected a win a piece. Current series point leader, Coleman Gulick has yet to check into the win column but has three top five finishes and six top ten finishes in six starts.
In addition, the Egglefield Ford 358-Modifieds, Poirier’s True Value Sportsman Modifieds, Ernie’s Discount Tools Super Stocks and the Quebec Lightning Sprints will be in action for regular distance races in the event presented by Poirier’s True Value.
Post time is slated for 6 p.m. with grandstands opening at 4 p.m. Admission prices for Saturday are set at $20 for adults with kids ages 12 and under admitted free of charge.
