First PICK 4 Program Of Season Highlights Weekly Action This Sunday At Utica-Rome

Story By: JOHN TIFF / UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY – VERNON, NY – After a thrilling opener this past Sunday, Utica-Rome Speedway goes right back into action this Sunday May 20 with another exciting program.

Wilber Duck Chevrolet and Bill Herrig’s Auto Parts present a PICK 4 show plus Stockbridge Valley Reading Challenge featuring the DirtTrackDigest.com DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Broedel Energy DIRTcar Sportsman, Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks, and Rookie Sportsman.

This past Sunday saw the new 358-Modified era open with David versus Goliath type shootout that saw defending track champion Matt Sheppard play the role of Goliath as he narrowly beat Jeremy Wilder to the checkered flag by just .042 seconds in the New Yorker 100. With the switch over to the 358-Modifieds, competition is expected to be wide open this year as drivers compete for the $5,000 to win track title. Mat Williamson, Larry Wight, Billy Dunn, Jimmy Phelps, Tim Fuller, Rocky Warner, Marc Johnson, and Erick Rudolph rounded out the top 10 spots last Sunday.

AJ Filbeck opened the Broedel Energy DIRTcar Sportsman point season with a win last week after an outside pass on Mike Button halfway through the event. The pursuit for the $1,000 to win track championship this Sunday as another stellar field is expected to be on hand. Currently, Kyle Inman, Kyle Kiehn, Dave Marcuccilli, Tommy Collins Jr, Button, Matt Janczuk, Alan Fink, Stephen Denton, and Chris Mackey hold down the top 10 positions in the standings after the first week.

In Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stock opening night action, defending champion Mike Welch stalked leader Shane Henderson for much of the 20-lap main event. With just a handful of circuits to go, Welch made the winning pass for the win to begin his defense of his title. Henderson, Pete Stefanski, Travis Welch, and Bill Knapp rounded out the top five.
