Woodhull Season Opener Cancelled; Open Practice This Saturday

Story By: STEVEN OVENS / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Mother Nature is showing her cards this week in the Twin Tiers, and those cards are not cards race fans were hoping to see.

Wet weather and already wet grounds across the property at Woodhull Raceway has forced track officials to cancel the season opener scheduled for Saturday night. “New York’s Toughest Bullring” and its fans will have to wait one more week to get their dirt track fix.

An open practice has been scheduled for Saturday afternoon instead from 2:00-6:00. A move that track owner Ted White said was the only call his team could really make.

“If we didn’t get any more rain, we would have been ready to race,” said White. “The track is in great shape, maybe still a little soft but ready for a practice session and even a race night if we had to.”

The grounds across the property on County Route 102 in Woodhull- well that’s a different story.

“The general admission parking area and the outside edge of the pits by the pit shack is still pretty wet. But we can just avoid those areas and welcome racers in to get some laps on their cars and motors.”

Practice will run from 2:00-6:00 and will carry a $15 pit pass. The grandstands will be open free of charge. Any car from any track is welcome to join us for open practice.

The opening event for the Bears Auto Body/CB Motorsports Front Wheel Drive Challenge Series will now shift to Saturday April 21, paying $400-to-win and $50-to-start. This race will carry a $10 entry fee for the Front Wheel Drives.

The $1,000-to-win Close Racing Supply Crate Late Model 30-lap event has been rescheduled to run on the same night as the Crate Late Model King of the Bullring match race event on Saturday June 16.

Saturday April 21 will now serve as the season-opening event for Woodhull Raceway. Insinger Performance and Lias Tire will sponsor the action, featuring a 30-lap NAPA Crate Sportsman feature paying $1,000-to-win. Also in action will be the first race of the three-race Woodhull Street Stock Challenge Series. Race No. 1 of this series will pay $400-to-win and $50-to-start.

The Crate Late Models will also join the Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and Woodhull Warriors on the card.

Pits open April 21 at 3:30 with pit passes being set at $30. Grandstands open from 4:00-5:00 for $1 off the $12 general admission price for ages 13 and up. Seniors 65+ and ages 8-12 pay the reduced price of $6. Children 7 and under as well as camping are always FREE at Woodhull Raceway.
