Traffic Jam To Open 2018 Thunder On The Hill Racing Series May 27th

Story By: BOB MILLER / THUNDER ON THE HILL – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – For the twenty-ninth season, the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on Hill Racing Series will return to the Grandview Speedway and the 2018 season open will showcase one of the most successful events, the Pioneer Pole Building 21st Annual Traffic Jam for Modifieds.

The Traffic Jam will be a Big Block/358 Modified 40 lap event joined by the Sportsman and MASS Sprint Cars all taking place on Sunday night, May 27. Gates will open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

Plenty of prestige goes with winning this event as the list of previous winners is a who’s who of modified racing. Brett Hearn is a four-time winner, taking the inaugural victory in 1998. Other Traffic Jam winners include Matt Sheppard, Jimmy Horton, Tim McCreadie, Craig VonDohren, Jeff Strunk, Alan Johnson, Frank Cozze, Rick Laubach, Danny Johnson, Tim Fuller and the youngest Traffic Jam winner, 25-year-old Brett Kressley of Orefield, PA, the 2017 defending winner of this event.

This traditional event, known for its’ lucrative payoff will offer $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth-place and $500 just to start the 40 lap Modified feature.

There is no entry fee, and no track/series license required to compete in this event and a special rules package is offered for the region’s competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted.

Sportsman competitors from race tracks around the region will compete in the 25-lap, $1,300 to win main. A loosened tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman – competitors are allowed to compete on Hoosier or American Racer rubber. Grandview Sportsman rules are in effect and competitors are allowed to run sail panels. Full rules are available on the Grandview Speedway website.

A taste of sprint car racing will add to this Triple Thunder event with the MASS Sprint Cars taking part in a series of qualifying events leading up to their 25 lap feature.

All three divisions will compete in full qualifying heat races, consolations, and feature events.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Traffic Jam has been a staple of the Grandview Speedway schedule for over twenty years and will open the 2018 season of events.

Advanced tickets are available by calling 443-513-4456, where you can leave a message with your name, contact number, and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for, and picked up at the Grandview Speedway Will Call window on race night after 4:00 PM. Advanced ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM a full half-hour before General Admission tickets go on sale at 5 PM

General Admission ticket pricing for Sunday, May 27 is $25 for adults, Children 6-11 are $10 and Kids 5 & Under are FREE! Pit Area admission is $35, and a license is not required.
