Five Mile Point Pushes Season Opener Back Another Week; Practice To Be Held Sunday

Story By: ANDREW HARPELL / FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY – KIRKWOOD, NY – Lingering cold weather and wet conditions has again led to the postponement of the 68th consecutive season opening race at Five Mile Point Speedway.

An open practice will still be held this Sunday, April 8th for the race teams between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. For spectators they can check out the practice with the donation of a non-perishable food time to benefit CHOW. The opening day race event will now be held on Sunday, April 15th.

After a very successful practice last Saturday the race teams will have another opportunity to test their new race equipment this Sunday. The speedway racing surface went through a major overhaul during the month of December with a record amount of new clay put down. All indications look to an outstanding year of racing at Five Mile Point Speedway.” He added, “Temperatures look like they will be moderating by the end of next week and everyone is excited to get the first racing event underway next Sunday.”

The Sunday, April 15th season opening race program will begin at 4 p.m. The Crate Sportsman, All-Star Street Stocks, Xcel 600 Modified Tour, Four Cylinders and Factory Stocks will be on the card.
