Schedule Released For 2018 Race Of Champions Dirt Sportsman Series

Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – ELMA, NY – Race of Champions management is proud to release the 2018 slate for the Dirt 602 Sportsman Modified Series presented by Product 9.

The series will begin with its traditional event at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario on Friday, June 22 (www.ohswekenspeedway.ca) – In 2017, Chad Chevalier of Port Colborne, Ontario captured the victory.

On Saturday, June 30, the Series will visit Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., for the first time (www.newstatelinespeedway.com) . The Series will compete as part of the Speedway’s Open Wheel Mania show, where the winner will receive $1,250 and a minimum-to-start of $125.

Sunday, July 1, the Series will swing back into action at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario, as part of the tracks $1,000-to-win. In 2017 this event saw a tremendous car count as well as an exciting event that saw Brad Rouse of Saint Catharines, Ontario head to victory lane. Rouse went on to finish second in the championship standings in 2017. This will be the first of two series visits to Humberstone for the Series in 2018.

The Series will visit another new track on Saturday, August 25 as part of the Harry Sittler Memorial at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario (www.merrittvillespeedway.com) which will be part of a huge Dirt 602 Sportsman Weekend in the Niagara Region with two back-to-back nights of lucrative paying races.

On Sunday, August 26 the Dirt 602 Sportsman will compete for the right to have their name perpetually placed on the Pete Cosco Memorial Race of Champions trophy competing in a 50-lap race that will see the winner earning $2,000 for their efforts. (www.humberstonespeedway.com)

The Series Champion will once again earn a seat at the Championship Celebration in January of 2019. $1,000 in point fund monies and contingency awards from Product 9, as well the coveted champions display helmet and champions jacket from Hoosier Racing Tire. Point fund monies will be once again will paid throughout the top-10 positions along with the Speedway Illustrated Rookie-of-the-Year Award.

The Race of Champions is a sanctioning body presenting Modified and Stock Car racing on asphalt and dirt surfaces throughout the Northeast, with events in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The 68th annual Race of Champions weekend will take place in 2018 in North East, Pennsylvania at Lake Erie Speedway and is the second longest consecutive auto-racing event in North America, second only to the Indianapolis 500.
