Land Of Legends Raceway Gearing Up For 55th Season-Opener April 14th

Story By: TOM SKIBINSKI / LAND OF LEGENDS RACEWAY – CANANDAIGUA, NY – The long winter wait is nearly over for Ontario County race fans as the renamed Land of Legends Raceway officially opens for its 55th season of motorsports on April 14.

A high-speed show of Pepsi Big-Block Modified, Donath Motor Worx Sportsman, Street Stock, Mike Emhof Motorsports 305 Sprint Car and New Legends Sportsman action headlines the Saturday Spectacular under the direction of personable promoter Paul Cole.

Grandstand gates swing open at 5 p.m. and racing begins promptly at 7 p.m. The adult grandstand ticket price is $15 for all Saturday Spectaculars, $13 for Seniors (65 yrs. plus) while 16 and under are FREE with a paid adult. Reserved Grandstand seating for a weekly show is $17 and $2 for all children 16 and under. Seniors 65+ are $15.

“We just finished installing a new scoreboard along with a fresh timing & scoring loop and brand new LED lights are going up around the track this week,” noted Cole, who continues to operate SuperGen Products, a nationally-recognized distributor of Champion Power Equipment, from his nearby Newark, NY home base. “Come raceday we plan to roll in a Jumbotron to show ‘live’ driver interviews and race replays on the homestretch during the night. With a solid field of cars expected in every class and special events sprinkled in throughout the summer, our fans and racers are in for a real treat all season long.”

Fans and race teams get their first glimpse of the historic Ontario Co. Fairgrounds oval when the legendary speedplant opens for warm-ups for all divisions on Sat., April 7 with the first green flag unfurling at 5 p.m. A second 5 o’clock session is on the docket for Thr., Apr. 12. Grandstand general admission is free to the public both practice days and the pit fee is $20.

On Sat., Apr. 14 Product 9 & Daldry Canvas present the lead-off 35-lap feature for area Big-Block stars to begin the DIRTcar charter member track’s annual celebration. 2018 marks the track’s 41st year of operation under the DIRTcar Racing banner.

Steve Paine (Mod), Matt Guererri (Spt), Bob Buono (Sts) and Lee Sanders (305) claimed season opening honors to kick off the ’17 campaign.

Eight-time and defending Modified track points champion Matt Sheppard from Waterloo will be returning aboard his potent C.C. Performance-powered no. 9s Bickknell mount, enjoying major sponsorship support from Dendis Companies, Westmoreland Golf Club and Xtreme Lubricants. With LOLR the only Big-Block bullring in the area, ‘Super Matt’ will have to stave off touring stars Jimmy Phelps, Max McLaughlin and Peter Britten, local favorites Steve Paine, Justin Haers and Gil Tegg Jr. and all-time Canandaigua feature winner Alan Johnson if he hopes to continue his reign as perennial points king at the popular half-miler.

Also stating their intention of coming back to defend respective season-long titles are Montezuma’s Dave Marcuccilli (#M1 Spt), Macedon’s Adam DePuy (#99 Sts) and Shortsville’s Jason Whipple (#38 305).
