Tough First Night In Florida At DIRTcar Nationals For Kyle Sheldon & Team 17
Column By: DYLAN FRIEBEL / RPW – BARBERVILLE, FL – Kyle Sheldon, the Lebanon Valley regular filling in for fellow high banks competitor Elmo Reckner, had a rough first night at the Dirt Car Nationals in Volusia Speedway Park.
He was not alone though, however, as Series regular & 2017 Fonda Speedway Track Champion Tim Fuller also retired with mechanical issues.
Sheldon time trialed eighth in his group, which had the likes of Jimmy Horton, Pat Ward, Billy Decker and Jeremy Smith. After such a tough qualifying session, he had some work to do in his heat if he wanted to transfer.
Starting eighth in heat, the driver from Nassau, NY spun the #17 Bicknell machine about halfway through and was able to make his way back to that position in the field of 11. Unfortunately, they were only taking the top 5.
Kyle was scheduled to be in the second Last Chance Qualifier, but never made the call, ending his night early.
All of us who visit the High Banks hope for better night tomorrow for this Valley Of Speed regular.
