Justin Allgaier’s Chili Bowl Run Ended In B-Main Saturday Night

Story By: RON LEMASTERS / JR MOTORSPORTS – MOORESVILLE, NC – Justin Allgaier’s effort to make the A-Main at the 32nd annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals ended in the penultimate race before the finale, as the 31-year-old Illinois native failed to advance to the championship with a 16th-place finish.

Despite not transferring to what would have been his fourth A-Main, Allgaier did go one level farther this year than he did last year. A year ago, a crash on the final lap of his qualifying night A-Main put him at a disadvantage, and he was unable to advance from the C-Main.

After finishing second in the first C-Main of this year’s championship rounds on Saturday night, Allgaier’s No. 7A BOSS Chassis midget sustained damage from contact with another car. The contact caused Allgaier’s brakes to fail, which ended his night.

Earlier, in the first of two C-Mains, Allgaier ran to a solid second-place result behind winner Tanner Thorson, who ended up finishing fourth in the A-Main. With a solid shot to advance, Allgaier’s night was derailed by the B-Main contact on the tight indoor dirt track.

Former JR Motorsports driver Brad Sweet finished sixth in the A-Main, which was won by NXS rival Christopher Bell for the second straight year. Bell topped Kyle Larson in a late battle that ended when Larson’s engine expired near the end of the event.
