Novelis ‘Fan Can Chase’ Raises $8,300; 138,000 Cans Collected

Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway’s 2017 Novelis Fan Can Chase officially concluded following the speedway’s Track Championship events contested on Saturday, August 19 and it is now time to announce the season totals for dollar amounts raised as well as final can counts.

Throughout the 2017 season, 138,000 cans were collected for the thirteenth annual addition of the Fan Can Chase which pushed the all-time total to nearly 1.4 million. This made for a total dollar amount of $8,300 which will be donated to charities. Repeat winner Jim Larkin was the leader of the drive at an impressive 18,110 cans.

Novelis, the longtime headlining sponsor of the speedway’s Supermodified division, is the worldwide leader of rolled aluminum products which delivers unique solutions for the most demanding global applications such as beverage cans, automobiles, architecture, and consumer electronics. It’s Oswego plant has also allowed Novelis to be the regional leader in aluminum products across Oswego County and beyond.

“Through our joint efforts with the Oswego Speedway, Scriba Can and Bottle, and most importantly, the race fans, we collected nearly 138,000 cans this season,” said Novelis Finance Lead Tom Salvador. “We are pleased to say once again that the $8,300 from these cans will be donated to local charities. We are extremely grateful for all who participated in helping us reach these amounts.”

With Oswego Speedway’s full 2018 schedule now revealed, all signs point to the return of the Novelis Fan Chase next season with dates to be announced. Full time schedules and pricing for Oswego’s 68th consecutive season of action will be revealed in the near future.
