First-Ever RUSH LM Tour Event At Weedsport In July To Be Televised By MAVTV

Story By: MIKE LEONE / RUSH RACING SERIES – PULASKI, PA – The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series powered by Pace Performance is proud to announce a first ever visit to New York’s Weedsport Speedway as part of a special holiday program on Tuesday night, July 3. The $2,000 to-win “Marquee” Event will also be televised on a tape-delayed basis and will air on MAVTV/Speed Sport.

The Tuesday, night before the Fourth of July, will allow all teams the opportunity to compete in this historic event without conflicting with any other RUSH events. Weedsport, which also houses the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame, sits in between the RUSH Weekly-Sanctioned tracks of Fulton, Outlaw, and Genesee Speedways. The event is also expected to attract racers from New York’s Stateline and Woodhull Speedways along with Humberstone Speedway across the border in Ontario in addition to the Touring Series regulars and other invaders.

“There is no doubt that the Weedsport event is going to be one of the most anticipated on our 2018 Touring Schedule, stated RUSH Director Vicki Emig. “Not only is it in an excellent location just off I-90 in the center of many of our New York teams, but the facility is truly a showplace. Over the years, Weedsport has been one of the most requested venues by the racers. Having RUSH’s first ever televised event on MAVT/Speed Sport, a station very familiar to racing enthusiasts, and presenting the event at Weedsport on the night before the Fourth of July is sure to add to the excitement! We can’t thank track general manager Jimmy Phelps and staff enough for giving us this wonderful opportunity to showcase and take the RUSH Late Model Series to the next level!”

The MAVTV/Speed Sport shows air Thursday nights at 7 pm and most will re-air at 10 pm the same evening. Re-runs typically air later in the season. MAVTV, which is available to 30 million households, is predominantly on DIRECTTV and Fios by Verizon. Other carriers can be found here: www.mavtv.com/get-mavtv/providers. Shows are also archived on speedsport.tv for online viewing at the end of the season.

The 2018 season is shaping up to be historic with the first ever Mid-Atlantic “Battle of the Bay” Speedweek to kick off the year with four straight nights of Sweeney Touring competition at Delaware, Georgetown, Potomac, and Winchester Speedways April 18-21, and now the announcement of the first ever RUSH event at Weedsport in conjunction with television. This year’s “traveling” Manufacturers Night presented by MSD Performance will be a Tour event on Thursday, July 19 at Genesee. The popular “Manufacturers Night” will again take place at Tri-City Raceway Park on August 19. The season’s biggest event will be the “Jook George Steel City Classic” at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on August 11. The prestigious “Bill Hendren Memorial” returns to Pittsburgh on October 5-6 with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. A complete schedule of events will be released in the future.

Weedsport Speedway is located just off I-90 at 1 Speedway Drive, Weedsport, NY 13166. The track was purchased in 2013 by Al Heinke. Weedsport Speedway has returned to a real racers track, providing a complete venue for racers, their families and friends, and for the fans looking for motorsports entertainment. Officially opened for the first time on July 24, 1955 – the Weedsport Speedway 3/8 mile dirt oval has produced a legendary list of drivers and champions including Will Cagle, Danny Johnson, Bob McCreadie, Alan Johnson, Jack Johnson, and Dave Lape to name a few.

Today the facility welcomes the best of the best in dirt short track racing from the Craftsman World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series to the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds along with the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and more. While racing entertainment is the focal point, Weedsport Speedway has gone the extra mile in welcoming Weedsport Productions, which brings the facility full circle with a dedicated digital entertainment team for web, television, and on site screen usage.
