Big Game Motorsports & Kerry Madsen Earn Two Top Fives At World Finals

Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BIG GAME MOTORSPORTS – CONCORD, NC – Big Game Motorsports driver Kerry Madsen posted his career-best result at The Dirt Track at Charlotte twice last weekend during the Textron Off Road World Finals.

Madsen finished fourth during both World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series main events, giving the Muddy sponsored team 18 top fives in 33 races with the series this season. That ranks seventh best despite only competing in approximately 40 percent of the Outlaws races.

“It would have been fantastic to finish with a win, but I think that shows where the team has been all year,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of top fives with the Outlaws. That’s been there all year.”

The World Finals began on Thursday when Madsen qualified fifth quickest in his group for Friday’s program before he set quick time in his group for Saturday’s show.

Madsen finished second in both a heat race and a dash to open Friday and start the A Main on the outside of the second row.

“We probably had a chance to win on Friday,” he said. “I tried a little too hard too early and burned the tires off it. We weren’t as good after that. You’re going for the win and you have to try hard. I should have settled down and ran the bottom or middle in turns three and four. I was trying a little too hard too early.”

Madsen took the lead briefly on Lap 10 during a three-car battle for the top spot. He remained in striking distance for the victory during the remainder of the race before ending fourth.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Madsen placing second in a heat race and fourth in a dash to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

“We had a car that could have won,” he said. “Every time we’d pass a car a yellow would come out. We didn’t catch the breaks, but we were battling until the end.”

Madsen maneuvered from seventh to fourth place, which marked the Muddy backed team’s 34th total top five this season. It was also their 11th straight top-10 finish with the World of Outlaws.
