Trenca Learns Following Strong Start To Season Finale At Outlaw Speedway
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / MUCCI MOTORSPORTS – CLAY, NY – Joe Trenca was on pace to continue his top-10 streak at Outlaw Speedway last Friday when he entered the Patriot Sprint Tour season finale with a top-10 finish during all six of his previous starts at the oval.
The Mucci Motorsports driver set quick time in his group’s qualifying session before powering from third to win a heat race. That earned a spot in the dash, in which Trenca advanced from sixth to fifth place to start the A Main within striking distance of a win.
“We had a real good night going,” he said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t capitalize. That’s the way it goes sometimes. We made a bad choice on the right rear tire. It was an open show so we had leeway on tire choice. We wanted to experiment. We definitely learned about that tire.”
Trenca was unable to find grip or a good balance to his race car during the main event, which was slowed by numerous cautions.
“There were three red flags in the first five laps,” he said. “I think we had eight cautions in 25 laps. I’d lose two or three spots on every restart. I just couldn’t get going.”
Trenca faded to a 15th-place result.
In other news, Trenca would like to wish the best of luck to former crew member, Andrew Bowman, who has joined a team on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series next year.
“I want to thank Andrew for his hard work and wish him success moving forward,” he said.
