Trenca Highlights Weekend With Career-Best Result At Williams Grove

Story By: SHAWN MILLER / MUCCI MOTORSPORTS – WEEDSPORT, NY – Joe Trenca produced many bright moments during a busy holiday weekend that featured races at three different tracks.

The Mucci Motorsports driver opened the competition last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he advanced from seventh to fourth place during the Patriot Sprint Tour and URC Series heat race. That locked him into the 18th starting position for the main event.

“We moved forward in the heat race, which was good because the track was narrow,” he said. “In the feature I was trying to stay out of trouble. We passed a few cars. It was nice to run there in a 360 and learn the track more. I feel next time we go back we’ll be better.”

Trenca maneuvered from 18th to a 13th-place result, which was his best career finish at the track.

The team returned to New York on Saturday to compete at Fulton Speedway in Fulton with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.

Trenca timed in seventh quickest in his group and placed seventh in a heat race before he charged from eighth to second place in the B Main. Trenca exited early in the main event to save his equipment, which resulted in a 23rd-place finish.

“A bad time trial put us back in the heat race,” he said. “In the B Main we were really good, but in the feature we weren’t going anywhere so I pulled in. It was just one of those nights you have in racing where you get behind early and it’s tough to overcome.”

The weekend concluded on Monday at Weedsport Speedway, where Trenca timed in second quickest in his group qualifying to start the Empire Super Sprints show. He then finished where he started – second – in a heat race to make the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 5 to start the A Main fifth.

“We missed the gearing in the car in the feature so I was spinning the tires and couldn’t get on the throttle as soon as other guys,” he said. “Restarts really, really killed me. I’d start on the bottom and they’d drive around the top. Once we got going I was able to keep pace. We had three restarts and about two cars would pass me each time.”

Trenca ended with an 11th-place finish.

The Mucci Motorsports team will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the Tuscarora 50 with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

“I’m excited about getting back to Port Royal,” he said. “The Tuscarora 50 is a big event and will draw a lot of great drivers. Hopefully we’ll have a good showing and can learn more about racing that track.”
