Dietrich Charges To Labor Day Classic Victory At Port Royal

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / DANNY DIETRICH RACING – GETTYSBURG, PA – For a second consecutive season, the third time in four tries, Gettysburg’s Danny Dietrich parked on top of Port Royal Speedway’s infield victory lane stage during the annual Labor Day Classic.

A victory that stunned everyone in attendance, Dietrich charged forward from tenth on the grid to earn the $4,000 payday, driving by race leader, Brock Zearfoss, on the bottom of the speedway as the pair drag raced toward the final checkers. The victory, accomplished while flying the Weikert’s Livestock colors, was Dietrich’s 11th of the 2017 season, as well as his first at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace.”

“I drove my ass off yesterday,” Dietrich said about his Labor Day Classic victory. “This definitely makes up for the rest of the weekend. We had a few finishes that were a little less than stellar by our standards at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and Sunday, so this helps us forget about those. What can I say. I have a great group of people who support this team and everything I do. This one was for them.”

Danny Dietrich, pilot of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Gsell’s Whitetails/Hickory Run Orchards/Carlisle Auto Salvage/CATS Used Truck Parts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Bowman Block & Head Repair/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 48, or No. 29 pending on his schedule, entered competition at the world-famous, Williams Grove Speedway half-mile on two separate occasions throughout Labor Day weekend. Dietrich’s Williams Grove Speedway double resulted in a pair of top-ten finishes including a sixth place run during the Van May Tribute on Friday, September 1, followed by a seventh place finish during the Billy Kimmel Memorial on Sunday, September 3.

With the intent to score the largest payday in the history of Port Royal Speedway, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich will turn his focus back toward the Juniata County Fairgrounds, set to join the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions for the 50th Annual Tuscarora 50 on Friday and Saturday, September 8-9. Complete with back-to-back programs, Tuscarora 50 weekend will kick off on Friday, September 8, with a $5,000-to-win main event, followed by the 50-lap, $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday, September 9. Dietrich will enter the weekend as a two-time main event winner against Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions in 2017, most recently at Williams Grove Speedway.

“We want this one,” Dietrich said regarding the 2017 Tuscarora 50. “We’ve been looking forward to this event since it was announced. We are all excited to get there.”

“Double-D” finished fifth during the 2016 Tuscarora 50, climbing forward from ninth on the the feature grid to do so.
