Rob Maxon Finally Grabs His First Career Win At Lebanon Valley Speedway
Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / MAXON RACING – POWNAL, VT – Rob Maxon has won in many forms of motorsports, from Pro Stocks to dirt bikes to Sportsman. However, those Sportsman wins were at Albany-Saratoga. One thing he’s wanted that has seemed to be out of his reach was a win at his home track, Lebanon Valley. That all changed Saturday night with a dominating performance in the 20-lap feature event.
Maxon ran most of the event in third position. That was until a mid-race restart that saw him make a daring slide move heading into turn three on second place man Chris Lynch. He then made the same move four laps later on leader Chris Curtis, completing the pass on the #35 driver as they went through turns one and two.
From that point on, the Dane’s Auto Parts, Southside Sales & Service #96 wasn’t going to be denied as he took the checkers for the first time on the high banks by a full straightaway.
“This is simply awesome,” Maxon said. “Our car handled so good tonight. I could outbrake everyone going into turn three by quite a bit and the car just stuck. I told my wife now that since we finally got this win, I can retire…kidding of course.”
Anyone who’s seen Maxon’s #96 knows the car is loaded with sponsors. He was quick to thank them and his team for their dedication.
“I really have to thank my crew for this one,” he said. “My father, my wife, my uncle Randy and Louie, Todd, Nate, Wendy, and probably most of all Milo Campbell. Milo’s the one who put all of this together for us this year and without him and our great sponsors this wouldn’t be possible.”
On Sunday, Rob headed to the Utica-Rome Speedway for the next installment of the King of Dirt Sportsman Series, but it was a struggle from the moment the team unloaded off the trailer.
“We struggled at first to find speed,” he said. “The track wasn’t bad. It was a little slick, but was racy. We made a bunch of changes that got us in the ballpark. We got as high as 16th in the feature, but after I made contact with another car, I knocked the toe out and we faded back after that.”
Maxon brought the car home in 26th when the 30 laps were complete and knows he and his team still have some work to do.
“We just haven’t found the balance to our tour car like we have in the Valley car,” he said. “We’ll figure it out. I have faith. We’ve already found some things I think may help.”
Plans this week for Maxon Racing include a visit Sunday night to the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park after having their car on display at the Motorama Car Show in North Adams, MA during that morning.
