Historic Weekend For The Empire Super Sprints
Story By: DEAN REYNOLDS / EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS – SYRACUSE, NY – The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints will showcase a little history and a trip down memory lane this weekend with their events at Fonda and Weedsport. On Saturday at Fonda will be the annual Earl Halaquist Memorial while Sunday at Weedsport it will be the Legends Reunion with the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
After a year off, the stars and cars from ESS is back at the Track of Champions with a full point event where it awards points towards the overall Lucas Oil ESS Championship and also the NAPA Auto Parts US Tour. The $2,000 to win event will honor the National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Earl Halaquist which grew up in nearby Sidney, NY. Several members from the Halaquist family will be on hand for the event making for a special night.
Then on Sunday, the ESS Hall of Fame ceremony kicks off the day at 2PM with the inductions of Mike VanDusen and Lance Yonge at the Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame which is on the grounds of the speedway.
Then later that night, the ESS stars will be racing for another $2,000 to win payday which will award points again for Lucas Oil and NAPA. ESS Hall of Famers will also be signing autographs on the midway before the event.
Jason Barney leads both point standings coming into the weekend looking for his first ever ESS championship. The list of challengers on both nights look like a who’s who and will be vying for the those $2,000 to win top prizes.
Paul Kinney, Matt Tanner, Matt Billings, Paulie Colagiovanni, Jeff Cook, Shawn Donath, Jonathan Preston, Brett Wright, Steve Poirier, Chad Miller, Chuck Hebing, Dave Axton, Alex Vigneault, Kelly Hebing, Yan Bilodeau, Dylan Swiernik, Keith Granholm, Jeff VanDusen and more are looking to be at both events.
