Tremont & Wilder Score In Double Features At Albany-Saratoga

Information By: KEVIN WRIGHT / ALBANY-SARATOGA SPEEDWAY – MALTA, NY – Jeremy Wilder held off the charges of a red hot Peter Britten, the point leader, to capture his second win of the season and career at “ The Great Race Place Friday night.

Wilder took the lead from early race leader Ray Hoard on lap 4 of the 35-lap main event From there he was not seriously challenged until the closing laps when Britten who started in the 15th spot made his way into the second spot with less than ten laps to go and began to run down Wilder. Despite his efforts Britten was not able to find a way by Wilder.

Hoard would settle for third with defending champion, Marc Johnson and Keith Flach rounding out the top five.

Another rough outing for Brett Hearn as he was involved in a turn 4 crash on the initial start and exited the speedway with fluid trailing from his number 20 Madsen Overhead Doors Teo.

In a wild makeup Modified Feature from June 23 to start the night Kenny Tremont held off all challengers to win his second feature of the season and 73rd of his career.

Ronnie Johnson worked his way through the field to second and began to challenge Tremont as a series of yellows came out in the final ten laps. Early race leader Reckner was able to slip by Johnson with two to go but had to settle for second. Johnson was third with Bodie Bellinger and Brett Hearn rounding out the top five.

A couple of scary flips took place on laps 1 and 2 of the 35-lap feature. Going down the backstretch on the first lap Demetrios Drellos went end over and end and barrel rolling down the backstretch ending up off the track on all four in turn three. Drellos was not hurt.

When action resumed Kris Vernold made contact with C.G. Morey in the front stretch sending him airborne in the front stretch catch fence. His tire and axle and hood flew through the air narrowly missing flying into the pit grandstands. Fortunately Vernold or no spectators were injured.

 

In the Sowle Trailer Repair Sportsman feature it was Dave Constantino holding off the charges of Rocky Warner to pick up the $1000 payday.

Constantino took the lead from Pat Jones on Lap 9 of the 25-lap feature. Warner who started 12th worked his way to second by lap 12. From there Warner tried everything he could to get around Constantino but was unable to.

A caution came out on lap 22 and Warner took it to the high side on the restart. He then jumped the cushion in turn 2 allowing Constantino to pull away and Chris Johnson to slip under for second. Warner would settle for third with Pat Jones fourth and Mike Coffey fifth.

In the 30- lap DIRTcar Pro Stock feature it was Rob Yetman taking the lead on lap 26 and holding off Brandon Emigh for the win. Chucky Dumblewski finished in third, Luke Horning was fourth and Josh Coonradt came home in fifth

Dan Grignon went wire-to-wire to win his first career Limited Sportsman feature. Justin Buff was second with John Stowell finishing third. Mike Block came home fourth and Colin Clow was fifth.

Randy Miller outdistanced the field for his fourth win of the season in the Street Stock division 20-lap feature. John Filarecki finished in second with Damon Anderson, Chase Ausicker and Jimmy Duncan rounding out the top five.

Ben Grant was the winner in the Greg’s Towing and Repair 4-Cylinder Dual Cam division and Will Ryan was the single cam winner.

Albany-Saratoga returns to action next Friday night July 28 with “Stan Da Man 32 night” The night will honor Stan DeVore, father of track promoter Lyle DeVore and his sister Glenda DeVore, head of concessions at the speedway.

Stan was a big part of the racing at Albany-Saratoga and passed away just after the 2016 season. The Modified division will pay $3,200 to win and all features will be 32 laps as that was Stan’s favorite number.

Racing begins at 7 p.m. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. Grandstands open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $2 for children under 11.

Malta Mud Bits- It was a stellar week for Modified point leader Peter Britten. On Thursday night he captured his first career Super DIRTcar series win at the Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio becoming the first Australian to do so. Friday night at Malta he dropped from the first feature on Lap 9 but charged through the field almost beating Jeremy Wilder for the win.

Long time Pro Stock driver Rob Langevin was on hand Friday night in the DIRT Pro Stock race substituting for Walt Brownell. Former Lebanon Valley Modified pilot Matt Quinn was also subbing for David Schilling in the Sportsman class.

It was also “Kiddie ride night” at the Albany-Saratoga. Prior to the start of the event children were loaded upon race cars and taken for a ride around the racing surface.
