Shullick, Snyder Survive Oswego Twin 35’s To Lead Current Triple Crown Standings

Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – OSWEGO, NY – A wild Saturday night at Oswego Speedway tested the determination of all of the Novelis Supermodifieds in the pit area, especially those contending for the Shea Concrete Triple Crown Championship Series of Supermodified racing presented by ASI Racewear.

When all was said and done at the conclusion of two 35-lap feature events, the overall TCCS winner was Dave Shullick Jr. in the Nicotra Racing No. 2 with finishes of second and first on the evening.

The overall win marks Shullick’s second victory on the TCCS trail this season after having won the opener at Oswego on May 13.

After troubles at Lancaster, Joe Gosek bounced back for a runner-up drive in the overall standings after finishing third and second on the night in the No. 00. The second place run is Gosek’s best of the season in TCCS competition.

Twin 35 #1 winner Keith Shampine would join Gosek with his best TCCS drive of the season finishing in third overall with fellow TCCS driver Joey Payne joining the party of best runs in 2017, finishing fourth overall in the Penix Racing No. 14.

Tim Snyder and Jeff Abold would be the only other TCCS racers in the top ten positions overall, finishing sixth and seventh.

Howard Page just missed the top ten, finishing in the 11th spot with Tim Jedrzejek in 13th driving the Danzer No. 52, Dave Danzer in 15th, Otto Sitterly 16th, Dave Gruel 17th, Michael Muldoon 18th, and Dave McKnight receiving show up points after he was unable to contend in either main event.

A crash on the first lap of the first Twin 35 resulted in damage for several racers including Sitterly, Gruel, and Muldoon which accounted for their lackluster finishes on the night.

Following the third TCCS race of the season Shullick continues to lead the way in the Bentley Warren Driver of the Year championship with 278 points driving both the Nicotra Racing No. 2 and the Bodnar No. 95 this season.

Another solid performance for Snyder has pushed him to second in the driver standings following Oswego with 227 points. Sitterly sits third just six points behind Snyder with Gosek now in the fourth position and Danzer finishing the top five.

The Jim Shampine Supermodified of the Year standings has taken on a new look at the very top with Snyder Racing now moving to the point with the No. 0 at 227 points. Currently sitting second and first in the standings, Snyder is in line for a $10,000 pay day should the standings stay as is.

Gosek Racing flies to second after a big day at Oswego and misfortune for others, sitting just 12 points out of the championship lead.

Danzer Racing, Morton Racing, and Gruel Racing are the top five in the Supermodified championship after three events.

Saturday marked another free Hoosier Racing Tire giveaway for TCCS competitors with Joey Payne and Penix Racing receiving a right rear tire as well as Michael Muldoon and Muldoon racing.

The next round of the TCCS championship will be the second ISMA winged Supermodified event of the calendar coming at Stafford Motor Speedway on June 23.
