Hirschman Goes Back-To-Back With RoC Win At Jennerstown

Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – JENNERSTOWN, PA – Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., started in the 10th position and worked his way through the field to capture the 37th Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series victory of his career, in the series first visit to the beautiful Pennsylvania Speedway for the Hunter Truck Sales 100 Salute to Ed McGuire and McGuire Motorsports.

“I thought we missed it a little bit tonight but the caution came out at the right time and we were able to get by Zane (Zeiner) and finish in victory lane,” offered Hirschman from Race of Champions Modified Series victory lane fueled by Sunoco. “It’s a great track and you can move around a bit to change the driving characteristics of your car. We had a good day and to be able to honor Ed McGuire, he’s a great friend and competitor. I am very happy he is here with us tonight for this race.”

Tommy Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., started on the pole flanked by Zane Zeiner of Bath, Pennsylvania. The duo swapped the lead early on in the race before Zeiner could build up a substantial advantage. George Skora of Eden, N.Y., ran third, while Hirschman made his way through the field before a caution with less than 30-laps to go set the stage for Hirschman’s run to the front.

Hirschman quickly moved to the lead and stretched it out once the green was redisplayed. Hirschman by .618 seconds over Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., with Zeiner finishing third.

The Series “Young Guns” of Skora and Catalano continued their impressive performances finishing 4th and 5th.

Mike Leaty earned his first fast time of the season, with a lap of 17.999 seconds with an average of 106.406 mph around the fast Jennerstown facility.

Leaty, Emerling and Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y., won the three qualifying races.

RACE OF CHAMPIONS RELEASES PENALTY FROM JUNE 17, 2017
Race of Champions officials have released the following penalty in regard to the event at Jennerstown Speedway in Jennerstown, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 17.

Per section K. subsection J., section 11.0, subsection I.) and the Competition Format released for each event; as a result of an unapproved tire change the 07 car driven by Patrick Emerling was penalized 26 championship points and fined $1,650 for an unapproved tire change.
