Empire Super Sprints Set To Invade Airborne Park Saturday
Story By: ROBBY KNOWLES / AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY – PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will make their way to Airborne Park Speedway this Saturday night.
Some of the top Sprint car drivers from the United States and Canada are expected to compete in a 25 lap main event.
The current point leader on the series, Jason Barney hails from Brewerton, NY and will take on the 4/10th mile track. Barney has one win and (5) top five finishes this season, according to the Empire Super Sprints website.
The all-time wins leader for ESS, Steve Poiriér, will do battle at Airborne. The St. Mathieu de Beloeil, Quebec driver has 62 career victories and will look to add to his total in the main event presented by Northline Utilities.
Other U.S. competitors expected include Coleman Gulick, Paul Kinney, Matt Tanner, Shawn Donath, Paulie Colagiovanni, Brett Wright, Chad Miller, Brandon Kidd, Dave Axton, Dan Douville, James Hanson and Anthony Cain. A handful of Sprint drivers are anticipated out of the Capital district, but have not yet confirmed.
Some of the competitors from north of the border will include Alex Vigneault, Matt Billings, Lee Ladouceur, Yan Bilodeau, Guillaume Neiderer. Jordan Poiriér and Dale Gosselin have talked about the event but are not yet confirmed.
The Empire Super Sprints will run timed hot laps, heat races, a dash, b main and their main feature event on the evening.
In addition, the Egglefield Ford 358-Modifieds, Fidelis Care Sportsman, Poirier’s True Value Renegades, Busch Beer Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks will all be in action. Heats and features are in store for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Renegades with features only for the Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks.
Post time for the event is 7 p.m. Main grandstands open at 5 p.m. with practice laps starting at 6 p.m. Admission prices will be $20 for adults and kids ages 12 and under free of charge. For more information and to stay up to date, visit airborneparkspeedway.com.
