Celebrate Canada 150 At Merrittville With $1000-To-Win Sportsman BEI Lightning Series Event

Story By: JIM IRVINE / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – There’s no better way to spend Canada’s 150th Birthday than at Merrittville Speedway’s Performance ATV & Leisure Celebration Saturday July 1st.

“There’s no better way to celebrate Canada’s 150th then a night at the races,” said Merrittville Speedway Owner Don Spiece, “and we’ve got quite a celebration planned … the BEI Lightning Series Sportsman Special … lots of activities for kids leading up to race time and $1 Hot Dogs in the grandstands. After FIREWORKS … what could be more Canadian than finishing out the night with Shoot from the Hip – a tribute to the Tragically Hip!”

With two events in the books to date, Niagara drivers Cody McPherson and Chad Chevalier are atop the points standings with 1 Victory each. Much of the top 10 includes some familiar names for Merrittville fans as McPherson and Chevalier followed by Adam Leslie, Darrell Farraway, Brad Rouse and Justin Sharp with James Friesen and Mark Chiddy tied for 9th spot.

The BEI Lightning Series was created by racer Brian Bellinger and started last season as a 3 race series at Freedom. The main focus is to present $1,000 to win races that will pay drivers better from first to the final qualified driver – offering gift certificates, prizes and freebies to competitors.

Henry’s Exhaust Systems, Lucas Oil, Fast Line Performance, Extreme Speed and Performance, Bicknell Racing Products, Tire Demon by Love-Tap Fabrication, Fab Shop 54, Rick’s Delivery, Seyfang Lubricants, Dialed Designs are among the companies offering gift certificates, prizes and freebies to competitors in addition to the Samco Designs Lo Cash Dash.

When the Grandstands open at the special time of 3 PM – younger race fans can have some fun with FREE Bouncy Castles set up in addition to vendors inside the front gate.

At 5 PM – a special Canada Day Cake will be cut and from 5:30 to 6:30 … Race Fans of all ages can take a ride through the Pit Area on the all new Fan Tram.

All Night in the Grandstand Area … it’s the Thorold track’s famous $1 Hot Dog Night.

At 7 PM in addition to the BEI Lightning Series Main Event for the S&W Service Centre Sportsman Division – action will also feature the Pinty’s Delicious Foods 358 Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks, Wood Motor Company Modified Lites and the Central Fabricating and Welding 4 Cylinders,

When the final checkered flag drops … the skies will fill with a FIREWORKS Display setting the stage for LIVE Music from Shoot from the Hip – a Tragically Hip Tribuite Band.

Race Fans and Race Teams alike are invited to take it in – it’s at the Honker’s Bar behind the Turn 1 Grandstands.
