Career Win #1 For Travis Hydar At Stafford Friday Evening

Column By: RYAN HILL / RPW – WOODBURY, CT – June 2nd was a big night for Travis Hydar at Stafford Motor Speedway. The teen out of Woodbury, CT picked up his first win of his career in the DARE Stock Division. It was the 4th race of his rookie season, and the driver of the #11 Hydar Construction entry was excited after the win, and surprised to be running this well so early into his DARE Stock career.

Travis jumped out to the lead on lap one of the 15 lap feature and was able to stretch his lead to a comfortable gap from the rest of the field. With about 4 laps to go the second place car of Johnny Walker closed in on Hydar and really made the rookie work to close out the win.

“This win is really important to me. “ Hydar said. “I have gained confidence in my driving capabilities, and also I gained respect from the other drivers. With this win I have passed one of my goals for my rookie season, and that was to try and get one win”.

Travis had been racing the junior outlaw karts Monday nights at Stafford over the last few years. In his rookie kart season he was able to finish the season 7th in points, and the following season saw the team fighting complications with the kart leaving them with a 9th place points final. In the winter leading up to the 2017 racing season the family decided to move up to full size car racing due to Travis’ height and weight.

Travis is adjusting well to full size racing saying that “I would have to say the biggest challenge so far has been adjusting to the difference in power, handling and the weight of the DARE Stock Car.”

With Travis picking up the early season win, he is focused on running up front the rest of the season as much as possible, and hopes to have a shot at the rookie of the year award at the end of the season.

The future looks bright for Travis Hydar and his family operated race team, a team that Travis wanted to thank for all their hard work and support.

“I would really like to thank everyone that makes this possible for me … My Mom, Dad, my Sister Becca and Uncle Jeff as well as my sponsors Hydar Construction, Superior Signs, I.T.S Electric, Superior Comfort, Chris Jones Roofing and Siding, and Eastwood Fine Finishes.
