Get To Know The Drivers: Johnny Bruno

Column By: DYLAN FRIEBEL / RPW – FAIR HAVEN, VT – This past weekend, I got the chance to do my first on my own camp out at a race track. I was about seven miles into Vermont at a very unique track called Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Devil’s Bowl is the only track in the country with an 1/2 mile asphalt track that encompasses a 1/3 mile dirt track. They welcomed me with open arms and I got the chance to talk to one the drivers, Johnny Bruno. Johnny is the son of the Mike Bruno who just happens to run the track.

Bruno runs both the asphalt and dirt. However, he runs Albany-Saratoga Speedways on Fridays in the #11 Bruno’s Towing car when they have the 4 cylinder division and then runs Devil’s Bowl in the #802 car weekly.

I asked Johnny a few questions in this weeks edition of “Get To Know The Drivers.”

Question: What made you get into racing?

Answer: “I got into racing because I grew up around it. Mostly when my dad would be running his modified and late model 3 Days a week. When it was my turn to race, I just fell in love with it. The adrenaline from racing is like no other.”

Q: What’s it like racing at the track your dad runs?

A: “It is very unique to race at his track, and not a lot of people get that opportunity. But no matter where I race, I try to race as hard as I can. But it is very different to hear my dad on the radio, talking to all of the drivers.”

Q: What do you like better, Dirt or Asphalt?

A: ” You know it’s funny, I’ve had a lot of people of ask me that and to be honest I like both the same. While both dirt and asphalt have a different feel in the pits and on the track, that’s what I like so I can’t say I like either better. However Dirt is a little more fun while asphalt is a little more serious.”

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located at 2743 Route 22a Fair Haven, VT and runs asphalt on Saturday’s and dirt on Sunday’s. Make sure to stop by and see Vermont’s Fastest Family Fun!
