Trenca Captures First Top-Five Finish Of Season At Raceway 7
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / MUCCI MOTORSPORTS – CONNEAUT, OH – Joe Trenca produced his first top-five finish of the season last Friday during a Patriot Sprint Tour event.
Trenca and the Mucci Motorsports team opened the night by maneuvering from fourth to second place in a heat race at Raceway 7.
“We were ok in the heat race,” he said. “We didn’t have the speed I was really looking for, but we moved forward.”
That locked Trenca into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 7 to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.
“We had a ton of cautions in the feature,” he said. “I didn’t get going until about Lap 15. Once the fuel load wore off I could get the wing back and we started sailing. Restarts were my friend. We were right there with the top three at the finish line. The leader was there with second place side by side with him and then I was side by side with third and lost it by a nose.”
Trenca finished with a fourth-place result, which marked his fourth straight season with a top 10 at the bullring. He remains ranked third in the Patriot Sprint Tour American championship standings.
“That track suits my style,” he said. “It’s a real fast track and you can run the top hard. I wish we’d go back there more often.”
Trenca was also scheduled to race with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., and on Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., but both races rained out.
He is scheduled to compete this Friday at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., and Saturday at Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
“Albany-Saratoga is a real cool place that’s really small, but really fast,” he said. “It has some banking to it. And Fonda, we had a good run going last year until a parts failure. I think it will be a good weekend.”
