Kerry Madsen Earns Win At Jackson During Spring Nationals
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BIG GAME MOTORSPORTS – KNOXVILLE, IA – Kerry Madsen and Big Game Motorsports captured their second triumph of the season last Friday during the Spring Nationals at Jackson Motorplex.
The event began with the Muddy backed team qualifying second quickest around the half-mile oval. Madsen then advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make the feature inversion, which lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.
“The car was quick so we got a good lap in qualifying and we were really good in our heat race,” he said. “We could move around on the track. Then we got a front row draw for the feature so I was excited. I knew I had to push hard all race. The first five laps we got after it. Once the track started taking rubber you had to manage the race after that. It started a car length off the top and slowly worked about halfway down the track.”
Madsen powered into the lead on the start and he led the distance to earn the triumph.
“I thought it was huge,” he said. “We’ve been quick, but it’s good to go to the home track and be fast all night and get a win.”
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where Madsen set quick time during qualifying before advancing from sixth to third place in a heat race. The feature inversion lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“We’re still working on the balance at Knoxville,” he said. “We’re close. We’ve got the start of the night better and now we need to get a little better at the end of the night. If we were in clean air we’d be fine, but on the short run stuff we’re a little off.”
Madsen ran fourth for the entire race before finishing in that position, which marked his sixth top five of the season.
The Muddy sponsored team will return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway before Madsen makes his debut at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., on Sunday with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
