Stambaugh Moves Forward In Attica’s Spring Nationals

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RAY MARSHALL MOTORSPORTS – ELIDA, OH – Despite retiring early from his heat race due to a tire issue, Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Rookie of the Year contender “Mad Max” Stambaugh did his best to recover, ultimately qualifying for the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win, Arctic Cat All Star main event at Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, April 15.

Stambaugh, pilot of the Ray Marshall Motorsports/Buckeye Machine and Fabricators/Fastenal of Kenton/No. 33M, launched his HD Supply Spring Nationals effort with the 18th fastest time during qualifying time trials, eventually finishing third and transferring through the evening’s B-main after suffering from a flat tire during the opening heat race. The Elida, Ohio, native was forced to start 23rd on the main event grid, charging forward to 15th at the final checkers.

“Not exactly how we wanted things to go at Attica, but you’ll have nights like that,” Stambaugh explained. “The biggest thing for us was we didn’t give up. We kept plugging away and made the most of our situation. That won’t be the last time something unexpectedly goes wrong, but at least I know we are capable of handling anything. We’ll bounce back next weekend and do what we can to outdo that finish.”

Max Stambaugh will continue his rookie campaign with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday evening, April 22, with a visit to the Wayne County Speedway near Orrville, Ohio; the lone Arctic Cat All Star program of the upcoming weekend and the final Arctic Cat All Star start in the state of Ohio during the month of April. Stambaugh and Ray Marshall Motorsports will enter Wayne County Speedway gates currently sixth in the Arctic Cat All Star championship standings.

Once action at Wayne County Speedway is complete, Stambaugh will move on to a Central Pennsylvania triple-header at Williams Grove Speedway, Port Royal Speedway and Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday through Sunday, April 28-30.

“Ray Marshall has given me an amazing opportunity this season. I certainly want to make him and the entire team proud,” Stambaugh said. “We have a long season ahead of us. I’m confident that we have what it takes to be this year’s top rookie with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.”
