Small Block Supermodifieds Go On Tour In 2017
Column By: JOHN DOUGLAS / RPW – OSWEGO, NY – A surprising announcement was made on Saturday morning, as newly-appointed Public Relations Manager for Oswego Speedway, Camden Proud announced that the Small Block Supermodified series of which he is a competitor will tackle both Evans Mills and Spencer Speedway at least once in 2017. The Small Bock Supermodifieds have run at both venues in the past, but this rekindling of the relationship could mean big things for the series created by Oswego Speedway.
Currently Oswego is the only venue that runs the Small Block Supermodified on a weekly basis, but the series may branch out with this new move, creating a touring series between the three venues. Mike Bruce fellow SBS competitor with Camden Proud and Lighthouse Lanes were also involved with the creation of the series, as Bruce was given the task of reaching out the the owners and promoters at the two speedways. Lighthouse Lanes will assist with its sponsorship role in the series as the title sponsor of Small Block events that take place outside Oswego Speedway known as the “Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series”
Evans Mills and Spencer Speedways are currently slated for one date each in June of this year, with the hopes of further dates being added. Bruce has competed at Evans Mills in the past and looks forward to again racing at different venues outside Oswego.
“I’m excited for us to be able to travel to new tracks and to work with everyone at both Evans Mills and Spencer,” Bruce said in the release. “Evans Mills has always been a great track for our class and what I’m hearing from everyone, although I haven’t raced there myself yet, is that Spencer is an absolutely fantastic facility as well. I am very excited.”
Bob Hoefer of Lighthouse Lanes said he jumped at the opportunity to further support Small Block Supermodified racing. As a former Supermodified owner, Hoefer has racing knowledge and hopes to add to the growth of the sport.
“I’ve had a lifelong interest in racing and that is something I want to continue,” Hoefer stated. “I think this is a great opportunity for the bowling center to help out in another capacity. We’re always looking to help out anybody we can, so like I said this is an awesome opportunity for us and we look forward to helping make this a successful endeavor. We are going to work on it and build it from here.”
