Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – PAWCATUCK, CT – Jacob Perry will head into the 2017 season in the Mini Stock division at the New-London Waterford Speedbowl. Perry ran Bandoleros for five years and is prepared to move up. He believes the Bandoleros are a great learning car where he could move up to a division like the Mini Stocks.
” Its a very popular division. Very much followed. Great Racing. I got to practice this car quite a bit. I’ve known this car since I was a little kid. Got a picture of it when I was three years old in victory lane with Chris Williams. I was very prepared for it and it was a good jump for me.” Perry Said
One of the races that was a down for Perry was he was leading and got together with Dave Trudeau and Perry ended up backing into the wall pretty hard and he felt it was one of the major downs to this season. Perry believes the 2016 season also had some great memories to it. Perry scored four wins in the Mini Stock division. He broke the record in time trials and also won the UNOH Youth Award.
Perry also ran a race in the Limited Pro 4 Modifieds last season. Perry felt running the Limited Pro 4 Modified was similar to a Mini Stock. The Limited Pro 4 that he ran did not have power steering like the Mini Stock and he felt both cars drove similar on the track.
He started last and won in the event. Perry and his team also received the Pit Crew Of The Year Award.
Perry is planning to take over the SK Modified from his father Dennis beginning at Wings And Wheels on Saturday night August 12th. Jacob cannot wait for that opportunity. He is planning to run as many races as he can to the maximum so that he does not ruin his rookie status for the following year for 2018.
There is a pretty good chance you will see Perry next weekend race in the Icebreaker in the Mini Stock division at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and see what he can do and hope to be competitive.
His goals for the 2017 season are to win the Mini Stock championship at Thompson and the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. That is his main goal and to be competitive in the SK Modified division.
The 2017 Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will be held next weekend Friday March 31st through Sunday April 2nd.
The 2017 opener at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl will be held on May 6th & 7th.
