Joe Trenca Opening Busy Sprint Season This Weekend
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / MUCCI MOTORSPORTS – CLAY, NY – Joe Trenca is planning to race a lot more in 2017, when he is branching out beyond his normal schedule.
The Mucci Motorsports driver, who posted career-best marks with five top fives and 10 top 10s last year, is running full time with the Patriot Sprint Tour during its America schedule for the first time in his career. He is also aiming to race in approximately two dozen 410ci winged sprint car shows.
“We’re going to try to win the PST title and win some races,” he said. “We haven’t really run an entire tour for a while. I think it will be fun. I enjoy all the officials and the guys that run the tour.”
While the Patriot Sprint Tour doesn’t start until April 21, Trenca will kick off his season this weekend with a pair of 410 sprint car races in Central Pennsylvania on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal.
“We’re looking forward to doing more 410 racing,” he said. “We did a lot of work over the winter and I think it will pay off this season. We spent a lot of time fine-tuning it. We’re hoping to get better in the 410.”
Trenca competed at Williams Grove Speedway three times last season. His career-best finish at the track was a 15th-place result. Saturday will mark his first-ever race at Port Royal Speedway.
“Our team goal is to get more laps, shake the bugs off the cars and knock the rust off myself,” he said. “It’s tough to start the season down there, but we’re really excited.”
