No Racing In The Month Of April At Merrittville Speedway; Rise In Covid Cases In Ontario
Story By: STEVE PETTY / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – The Ontario government imposed a province-wide emergency brake because of a rise of cases of COVID-19 throughout the province Thursday.
This announcement caused Merrittville Speedway to cancel their events throughout the night and paused the start of the 70th season of racing at the Thorold, Ontario facility.
“Unfortunately, due to the recent government shutdown across the province of Ontario, Merrittville Speedway will be unable to host any of our events throughout the month of April,” comments track owners Don & Lorraine Spiece. “Those events included our test and tune session scheduled for April 10, the Spring Sizzler on April 17, and the 70th Season Opener on April 24,” Spiece said.
The April 17th Spring Sizzler was set to be the debut event of the newly formed Pinty’s Knights of Thunder 360 Sprint Car Series. The Knights of Thunder are currently scheduled to return to Merrittville on Monday, May 24th as part of the Victoria Day event.
Merrittville Speedway will be providing an update regarding the schedule later in the month of April when more information will be available.
