Short Track Super Series Cajun Region Launches With Competitor Meeting Saturday

Story By: SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – SHREVEPORT, LA – History was made on Saturday afternoon in the Bayou State.

Northeastern-style Modified racers from Louisiana and Texas converged in Shreveport, La., for the first official Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Cajun Region event: a Competitor Meeting held at Shane’s Seafood & BBQ on Mansfield Road.

STSS founder Brett Deyo introduced Louisiana residents Chris and Tim Bates as the Series Directors for the first-year Cajun Region, a transition from the Southern Super Modified Series group.

A healthy congregation of racers took part in the informational gathering, which got underway with a traditional Louisiana Catfish lunch.

Deyo publicized an introductory 10-race point schedule with visits to Chatham (La.) Speedway, Sabine Motor Speedway in Many, La., and 171 Speedway in Leesville, La.

Jerry Hobson’s Chatham facility plays host to the inaugural race on Saturday, March 27. Hobson has been a staunch supporter of the division’s growth in the area.

Additional dates are in the works with a target of 12-13 points-paying shows.

The point season is currently scheduled to conclude on Oct. 9 at 171 Speedway.

Deyo outlined a dramatically increased pay structure for any event attracting 10 or more cars with $1,000 going to the winner, $750 for second and $200 just to take the green flag.

Tim Bates Painting announced a $3,000 contribution to the 2021 STSS Cajun Region point fund.

A $25 per-car, per-event payment from Day Motorsports of Tyler, Texas will fill out the point fund for the inaugural season. The fund will be distributed prior to the ‘post-season’ events Nov. 10-13.

The aforementioned ‘post-season’ will include the combined STSS and STSS Cajun Region ‘Cajun Swing’ with back-to-back races at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., on Nov. 10 and 11 ($4,000 to win Wednesday and $5,000 to win Thursday) before venturing to Chatham for Qualifying Night on Friday (Nov. 12) and the $20,000-to-win ‘Mods in the Marsh 75’ on Saturday (Nov. 13).

Deyo outlined the ’21 rules and procedures for the Cajun Region and answered questions for competitors on hand.

Seventeen memberships were filed at the meeting for teams planning to compete in the Cajun Region.
