Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – In case you missed it, the latest edition of the bi-weekly OCFS ‘Talkin’ Dirty’ podcast hosted by OCFS Small Block Driver Pat Reiser and OCFS’s all time leading winner and Director of Motorsports Brett Hearn contained several great sponsorship announcements from businesses that will be supporting the racing at OCFS this season.
“This week, United Rentals came back to sponsor the Modified DIRTcar class, H.O. Penn Cat will be with the Small Block Modifieds, and Arkel Motors for the Sportsman. It’s good to have Arkel back as they have been a huge supporter of OCFS for many years,” Brett said. “And Precision Hydraulic and Oil will be sponsoring the Rookies. This will really help us for point funds and to build these events better. If anybody is looking for anything that these businesses offer, these are the people that you want to go see.”
Another company that will be participating in the racing at OCFS this season is Wicked Truck Worx of Montgomery, NY and it’s a pretty cool deal that they have worked up.
“A representative from Wicked Truck Worx came up to the office and said that they wanted to come on board. They want to offer a Back-To-Back bonus. What that means is that anybody in any division that win back-to-back features will get a bonus,” Pat said. “Modifieds will get $500, Small Blocks $300, Sportsman $200 and Street Stocks $100.”
Also announced was that ECS Auto in addition to parts will be the Hoosier Tire and VP Fuel vendor this season. There will not be fuel available for this weekend’s practice, so those teams planning on attending the sessions need to make other arrangements. Fuel will be available from Opening Night going forward,
It was also announced was that longtime OCFS racer, Mike Kolka and his business, MJK Home Maintenence, will be contributing to the 6 race Rookie Sportsman series at OCFS this season.
“Rookie Sportsman races always had just has a winner’s share, their races are short. They are basically out there to get experience,” Hearn said. “Mike Kolka’s business, MJK Home Maintenance, stepped up and are adding $100 for 2nd place in all 6 races. His is another business to support if you need the type of work done that he does.”
Another announcement was that Carmen Rotundo will be continuing in the family tradition at OCFS in track preparation.
“The Rotundo Family is very famous around the Orange County Fair Speedway, they did the track when I first came here in the 60’s and thru the 70’s, 80’s 90’s and beyond,” Hearn said. “Carmen said over the last year if there was ever an opportunity for him to work with me on the track that he wanted to do it. Carmen has come on to do the track with a help from. Anthony Lehmann, a crew member of mine from the Freigtliner days has been helping him out here. I’m pretty enthused about having him here.”
The first race for the Rookie Sportsman on April 10th has 15 entries. The lineup was set by the order of emails that were received on March 11th. On April 10th, it will be Joe Conklin Jr and Alyssa Fogel leading the field to the green. Joe is the son of veteran Sportsman and Small Block driver Joe Conklin. Good luck to the OCFS Rookies this season.
