RPW Column: OCFS Rookie Sportsman, Get Those E-Mails Ready For Thursday, March 11th
Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – In case you did not tune in to the OCFS Facebook Live Broadcast on Tuesday, there was an important announcement concerning the first Rookie Sportsman race of the season.
“We are going to set the grid for the rookies first race by the order that the entries come in,” said OCFS Director of Motorsports, Brett Hearn. “This will give us an idea of what the car count will be for the division. Registration begins Thursday morning.”
But registrations submitted before 8:00 AM on Thursday, March will not be eligible for an up front starting spot. And there will be no early registrations accepted.
“When I turn on my computer on Thursday morning, the first entry received after 8 AM will have the pole position for the first rookie race,” said OCFS General Manager, Doug Dulgarian. “Be ready to send them in as close after 8 as you can to secure your up front starting spot.”
Doug’s email at the speedway for those entries is ddulgarian@ocfsracing.com
There was other competitor and fan information that Brett discussed on the broadcast.
“The Party Deck tables will be on sale in the next couple of weeks. They will be spaced out. If we don’t sell them out for the season, they will be available on an individual race night basis.”
“Driver memberships are only necessary if you want to be eligible for the point funds. If you buy your membership before the start of the season, the discount you get at the gate more than makes up the cost of the membership.”
“The Big Block Modified drivers are the only ones that have to have a DIRT license. It’s not a bad deal when it comes to insurance and the other benefits that go with it.”
“The practice sessions are coming up on Saturday, March 27th and Sunday, March 28th. The Saturday session will be from 3-7 and Sunday 12-4. As of today, we’ve had a lot of snow melt and the track is looking pretty solid. Unless we have a major turn with bad weather, we should be okay.”
And a note about the online car show. The deadline for is Monday, March 29. The entries can be sent via email to jmeier@omeevents.com or by using any of the speedway’s social media platforms.
