Short Track Super Series’ Speed Showcase 200 At Port Royal; Richest Dirt Mod Race Of ’20
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – PORT ROYAL, PA – The richest event for dirt Modifieds in 2020 is taking shape at Port Royal Speedway.
BD Motorsports Media LLC brings the ‘Speed Showcase 200’ to the ‘Speed Palace’ Thursday-Saturday October 15-17 highlighted by a massive $53,000-to-win, 200-lap spectacular for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modifieds.
A minimum purse structure of $125,675 has been posted for the Saturday 200 alone, drawing attention from competitors across the region and piquing the interest of race-starved fans.
The weekend kicks off on Thursday (Oct. 15) with a 40-lap, $5,000-to-win STSS Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central Modified event offering $1,000 for 10th and $400 to start. Crate 602 Sportsman will also be welcomed to turn practice laps in advance of their first appearance at Port Royal.
On Friday (Oct. 16), anticipation will increase with Qualifying Night for the Saturday STSS Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman main events. Modifieds take part in “mini-feature” 20-lap Qualifying Races, with Crate 602 Sportsman racing in 15-lap events. Four Cylinders, following established Port Royal rules, complete the Friday card.
B-Mains (15 laps for Modifieds, 12 laps for Crate 602 Sportsman) set the stage for the main events Saturday (Oct. 17). Modifieds run 200 laps for a $53,000-plus top prize, with a very healthy $2,500 winner’s share reserved for the Crate 602 Sportsman in a 50-lap grind.
Campers may move in to the Juniata County Fairgrounds starting Wednesday (Oct. 14) at noon.
Reserved camping spots go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 8 by calling 302.945.3206. Dry camping sites are $50 for the weekend. Sites with electric hook-ups are VERY LIMITED and cost $125 for the weekend.
Thursday and Friday events will feature general admission seating only with walk-up ticket purchases.
On Saturday, Rows A-G are entirely reserved at $40 per seat. Advance tickets can be obtained by calling 717.527.2303 starting Sept.16.
A rain date for the weekend of Sunday (Oct. 18) has been established.
