Danny Dietrich Opens 2020 PA Sprint Season With Lincoln Speedway Icebreaker Win
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / GARY KAUFFMAN RACING – GETTYSBURG, PA – It was a dominant afternoon in the Pigeon Hills for ‘Double-D’ Danny Dietrich, eventually sweeping the afternoon program and scoring a second-ever Icebreaker 30 crown, earning $4,000 in the process.
Dietrich, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing/ Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Sweeney Chevrolet, Buick, GMC/Self Made/No. 48 sprint car, started third on the feature grid, earning his way into the 30-lap program by way of heat race victory.
The former Lincoln Speedway track champion, as well as defending Central Pennsylvania sprint car champion, took command of the feature field on lap 12 and never looked back, utilizing Ryan Smith’s misfortune before surviving late-race surges by Logan Schuchart and Freddie Rahmer.
Smith led the first 11 circuits before making contact with the turn two wall and opening the door for Dietrich.
“I’m really proud of this team. We had a pretty demanding Florida schedule this year, but to come home and regroup and score a win during our first start of the year in Pennsylvania says so much. Our goal is to keep this going and better our 2020 win count,” Danny Dietrich said, a 15-time winner in 2020 including three at the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway. “I just want to thank all of the fans for coming out and showing their support. The crowd was unbelievable.”
Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2020 campaign with another visit to the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, February 29.
