Tyler Thompson Armed & Ready For DIRTcar Modified Tripleheader This Weekend
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – Tyler Thompson and Jason Simmons Racing are set for a DIRTcar Modified triple-header this weekend, as they prepare for the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified opener on Saturday, April 13 at Can-Am Speedway followed by Big Block and Small Block action at Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday, April 14.
Just last weekend, Thompson returned to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY with his No. 98T Sportsman machine, taking second in his qualifying heat race followed with an 11th place run in the night’s main event. Now, attention turns to an all Modified lineup for the remainder of the month of April.
“It felt good to get going outdoors again with the Sportsman the last few weeks, but now we’re ready to go Modified racing the rest of this month,” said Tyler Thompson. “The team has been working hard to get both a Big Block and Small Block set for the weekend and we couldn’t be more excited to have a chance to race against the best of the best two straight nights. We look forward to seeing all of the fans out this weekend at two big shows.”
After making his Super DIRTcar Series Modified debut at Volusia Speedway Park in February, Thompson is slated to make his first career Super DIRTcar Series attempt in the state of New York this Saturday as part of the tour’s season opening Thunder in the Thousand Islands at Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY.
The 100-lap, $10,000 to win Super DIRT Week Qualifier at Can-Am, will be the first of four Big Block events for Thompson in April.
On Sunday, Thompson will pull double duty in both Big Block and Small Block Modified action at Utica-Rome Speedway’s season opening Spring Break Shootout in Vernon, NY.
The night’s Big Block main event will pay $2,500 to win with $1,500 going to the winner of the Small Block program.
Next weekend, Thompson will take his Big Block machine to the Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY for their Cabin Fever season opener on Saturday, April 20.
On Saturday, April 27, Thompson will re-join the Super DIRTcar Series Modified tour, this time at Fulton Speedway for the 5th annual Highbank Holdup 100 in Fulton, NY.
JSR and Thompson will hit the pavement beginning on Saturday, May 18 with Oswego Speedway’s open practice session before kicking off their Supermodified season at Oswego on Saturday, May 25 with the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s.
