RPW Exclusive: Ricky Thornton Jr Dominates At Canyon Speedway Park For 250th Win
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – PEORIA, AZ – Round 3 of the Winter Challenge for the IMCA Modifieds at the Canyon Speedway Park in Arizona kicked off at around 1pm local time on Saturday in the blazing desert sun. Ricky Thornton Jr had won the previous 2 rounds both the past Friday and Sunday afternoons scoring his 248th and 249th career wins.
Starting off from position 5 in his heat race, Thornton narrowly squeezed by spinning cars in the middle of 1 and 2 to take over the 2nd position. Caution was thrown by the corner flagmen but the track was immediately cleared so the on track officiating pulled back the yellow and decided to keep the race green. It only took 1 more green flag lap for Thornton to take the lead and cruise to a heat race victory.
In their 25 lap AMain, Ricky Thornton started in the 8th position. Though the top side was not the favorite groove amongst the field, Thornton made his 20RT Lethal Chassis stick and within 2 laps he was running third. It only took a couple more laps for Ricky Thornton Jr to take the lead from Hunter Marriott.
The race remained green throughout the 25 lap feature event and Ricky Thornton Jr was able to cruise to his 250th win and third win in a row at Canyon Speedway Part over DJ Shannon and Hunter Marriott.
Later on social media, Ricky Thornton Jr posted a photo thanking all of the people who has helped him since 2005 when he got his first win and now his 250th at Canyon Speedway Park.
