Short Track Super Series Releases 2019 Schedules
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – MILLSBORO, DE – Spanning four states and nine months, the 2019 Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco schedule has taken shape.
The STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds will again compete in the Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region, creating feasible travel schedules for race teams and crews. Crate 602 Sportsman also have a North and South regional STSS format.
Legendary Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., serves as the bookend for the STSS Modified Halmar International North Region schedule. The ‘Hard Clay Open’ kicks off the season for the sixth consecutive year on Sunday, April 7. The ‘Hard Clay Finale’ will bring down the curtain on Thursday, October 24 as the opener to Eastern States Weekend.
Single events will take place at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y., Sunday, May 26; Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., Tuesday, June 4 (a combination North and South program); Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., Wednesday, June 19; Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway for the first time ever on Wednesday, July 3 ($10,000 to win); Accord (N.Y.) Speedway Tuesday, July 9; Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway Tuesday, Aug. 13; and the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals 12 returning to a resurfaced Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park Oct. 11-12.
The STSS Modified Velocita-USA South Region makes three stops on the neutral ground of Georgetown (Del.) Speedway including the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend Friday-Saturday March 15-16, ‘Blast at the Beach’ on Tuesday, Aug. 27 and the Mid-Atlantic Championship Friday-Saturday Nov. 1-2.
Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway, after a popular debut last year, moves to the early season on Sunday, March 24 with a back-up ‘weather date’ of Friday, Oct. 18 in place. Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., takes Tuesday, April 30, getting a jump on the busy summer season. Other events include a return to New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway on Thursday, May 23; the aforementioned combo event at Big Diamond June 4; and the $10,000-to-win York County Nationals at BAPS Motor Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa., Sunday, July 14.
Sunoco Race Fuels, in conjunction with Insinger Performance of Dushore, Pa., returns with its lucrative STSS Modified bonus program. Should a driver with the ‘home-track’ American Racer Cup and the North or South STSS Modified title, that driver will receive a $10,000 cash bonus. If one driver is able to sweep the American Racer Cup and both the STSS Modified North and South championships, a $25,000 cash bonus will be paid.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region is comprised of six dates: Thunder Mountain Sunday, May 26; Big Diamond in a combined event June 4 (the first-ever Crate 602 only event at the Minersville oval); Fonda Wednesday, July 3; Accord Tuesday, July 9; Woodhull Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Afton Oct. 11-12.
Georgetown plays host to three stops on the South Region: Friday-Saturday March 15-16, Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Friday-Saturday Nov. 1-2. Delaware International welcomes the Crate 602 series Tuesday, April 30; New Egypt Thursday, May 23; and Big Diamond Tuesday, June 4 in the combined regional race. Like their North counterparts, six races make up the South Region.
