Modifieds Return To Port Royal For Short Track Super Series’ ‘Speed Showcase’ October 12th

Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – PORT ROYAL, PA – For the first time in more than 30 years, Port Royal Speedway hosts the rumble of Modifieds on Friday, October 12.

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco big-block/small-block Modifieds roll into the Juniata County Fairgrounds for the ‘Speed Showcase’ as part of the series’ Velocita-USA South Region.

Modifieds will be featured in a 40-lap event paying a minimum of $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 just to take the green flag, the sixth of seven events en route to the $10,000 South Region championship.

This ‘Speed Showcase’ event will be highlighted by two headline divisions.

Also on the docket: 410 Sprint Cars competing in a 25-lap main event paying $4,000 to the victor.

“Since we announced this event last November, people have been talking about bringing the Modifieds back to Port Royal Speedway,” STSS promoter Brett Deyo said. “The ‘Speed Showcase’ will mark the first time in our series history that we have been featured on the same program as the 410 Sprint Cars. Race fans will not want to miss this show!”

Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, N.Y., leads the STSS Velocita-USA South Region standings into Port Royal with 491 points over Ryan Watt (450), David Van Horn (414), Craig Von Dohren (401) and Ryan Godown (388).

For the ‘Speed Showcase’ pit and grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m. Heat in the motors and hot laps hit the track at 6:15 p.m. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $25. Students (ages 12-18) pay $15. Kids 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.

There is a scheduled rain date for this event of Sunday, October 14.
