Champions To Be Decided Friday Night At Accord Speedway
Story By: STEVE PADOS / ACCORD SPEEDWAY – ACCORD, NY – As the 2018 racing season closes in on another great season, there is still plenty of racing going in the Catskills Mountains of New York State as the Accord Speedway will offer up it’s final regular season program this coming Friday evening, September 14th.
All divisions will be in action on Friday night with the “Night of Champions” taking center stage when the final points are tallied and the champions are honored and interviewed in the WRWD Radio Victory Lane. With some of the division titles still waiting to be played out, the night becomes very important that each driver with aspirations to earn a track title, be at their very best in the final event.
Also on tap for the Insinger Fuels Modified division will be the Orange County Big Block qualifier position for the Eastern States Weekend to be held at the Orange County Fair Speedway on October 19th to the 21st. The evening of speed will be sponsored by the Orange County Fair Speedway and Taylor Rental. Websites for the two sponsors are: www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net and www.taylorrental.com.
Some of the track titles still with royal battles going on include the Insinger Fuel Modified division. The division has been close all season with nine different winners in fifteen events in 2018 completed. With Mike Ricci suffering a dismal finish last week due to mechanical problems, Anthony Perrego has jumped out to at least a forty point margin over Ricci and a bit more over third place Danny Creeden. In the Arkel Motors Sportsman division, Kyle Rohner has earned more than enough points to repeat as a back to back champion and earn his fourth track title at Accord. Mick D’Agostino, a first year competitor at Accord, took to his new division very well and has reeled off six wins and will capture his first ever Accord title in the WRWD NEWS Sprint Car division. The Upstate Auto Pure Stock division has been a thrill to witness all season long as the competition is stout and just as in the past will go down to the final night to determine a champion. Emerson Cargain Jr, Steve Williams and reigning champion Travis Brockner have waged an outstanding battle all season and with just a few points separating them, the final event will determine who will rise to the occasion to become the champion. The wild and zany Emmanuel’s Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinders will go the post twice on Friday night and with 120 total points to be garnered in, almost anything can happen before all is settled. Jerry Kingeter has been the front runner since June and is determined to earn the first title for the first year division.
Now is the time to begin marking your calendar for the grand daddy of all Accord Speedway events, “The King of the Catskills” which will roll into Accord Speedway on September 29th with a practice date of September 28th for the drivers to dial their equipment in for the event. The Sixty lap Modified headliner will see the winner earning $5,000.00. The Crate Sportsman event offers up $1,500.00 to the winner. $500.00 is on the line for the winner of the Fireball 4-Cylinders should twenty cars be entered and the Enduro event will offer $750.00 to the winner. More information regarding the event is on the website and be released shortly.
