Trip To Fonda Speedway Last Saturday A Tough One For Rob Maxon
Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / MAXON RACING – POWNAL, VT – Rob Maxon and the Maxon Racing Team had the weekend off from their racing schedule at Lebanon Valley and had no King of Dirt races to run. What do you think they did? Of course, they went to Fonda Speedway to race.
The team loaded up their touring car that they’ve been having engine issues with, and went up the New York State Thruway to the Fonda oval to see if they had gotten things figured out. However, things just didn’t go their way.
“Things went bad for us all night, but we went to see if we had figured the motor issue out,” Maxon said. “It still kept breaking up, so we put a new distributor in it and still did the same thing.”
After running all night with issues, Maxon was credited with a 22nd place finish after only completing four laps. That meant a long week in the shop to try and figure things out. Was the team successful?
“I think we may have found the issue,” he said. “I was thinking it was an electrical problem. We swapped motors and it was still breaking up. However, after tearing the fuel cell apart and found that the fuel line was deteriorating. It was plugged up, so we kind of had two separate problems.
To test and see if things are fixed, Rob plans to tow both of his cars to Lebanon Valley this weekend, hoping things are corrected.
“I’m hoping to bring both to the Valley,” he said. I want to run the KOD car with the 358-Modifieds to see if it runs right or not.”
The next race for Maxon Racing will be this coming Saturday night at Lebanon Valley where Rob will going for his second win of the season. He currently sits fourth in track points, just 22 markers behind leaders Peter Carlotto and Chris Curtis.
