Great Racing Action This Saturday At The Fonda Speedway
Story By: RON SZCZERBA / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – This Saturday, June 9 at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, Amsterdam Printing & Litho presents a regular card of racing action in all weekly divisions along with the “Legends” cars with a starting time of 7:00 p.m.
The racing action at Fonda has been spectacular this season in the four events held so far with the winners of the feature events taking the lead in those features either late in the race or on the last lap of it making it very exciting for the fans, car owners, and drivers alike.
Last Saturday Bobby Varin took the lead late in the event for his 61st career win at Fonda (fourth on the all-time win list) while Mark Mortensen took the lead on the final lap to win his 19th career feature event in the sportsman division (second on the all-time win list). Cassidy Wilson was the winner of the pro stock feature for his first career win holding off a late race charge from both Chuck Dumblewski and Josh Coonradt.
Jason Samrov held off defending track champion Johnny Young and Rob VanAernam in the street stock feature for his fourth career win while Derrick McGrew Jr. continued his winning ways in the limited sportsman division with his third career win, all of those wins coming this season!
Congratulations to Bobby Varin who was the winner of the King of Dirt (KOD) 358-modified feature event at the Devils Bowl Speedway in Vermont this past Wednesday evening in the Palmers Service #76!
In 2017 the winners of the feature events at Fonda in the second week of June included Stewart Friesen and Josh Hohenforst (co-winners in the modified division due to scale issues at post race tech), Harry Shaffer (first career win in the sportsman division), William August (limited sportsman), Kenny Gates (pro stock), Cliff Haslun (street stock), Darral Hulbert (Vintage modified), and Doug Mathewson (Vintage sportsman).
So come to Fonda on Saturday evening and join the Demitraszek Enterprises team for another night of “history” in the making at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway! Also, be sure to visit the Fonda Speedway Museum before the racing action starts to bring back some memories of the historic moments that have happened at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds facility.
