Doubleheader Weekend Awaits Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
Story By: JEREMY SHIELDS / LUCAS OIL LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES – BATAVIA, OH – A weekend doubleheader awaits the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, at Tazewell Speedway on May 4 followed by Florence Speedway on May 5.
Tazewell Speedway, widely known as the world’s fastest 1/3-mile oval is accustomed to thrilling, edge of your seat racing action, lap after lap. The stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are expected to challenge regional standouts such as: Dakotah Knuckles, Shanon Buckingham, Billy Ogle Jr., Casey Roberts, Robby Moses, Brian Smith, Chicky Barton, and more.
Friday’s event at Tazewell Speedway, the Toyota Knoxville 50 presented by Ted Russell Ford and Secret City Dodge-Jeep, will feature a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap, $12,000-to-win main event. The Sportsman Late Models, Classic Cars, and Four Cylinders will also be in competition at Tazewell Speedway on May 4.
On Saturday, Florence Speedway will host the 32nd Annual Ralph Latham Memorial, in honor of the late Ralph Latham. Latham, a long-time Cincinnati area racer, lost his battle with cancer in August of 1986. The event will feature a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, and B-Mains – highlighted by the 50-lap, $12,000-to-win main event. The Open Wheel Modifieds and Crate Late Models will also be in action on Saturday, May 5.
The historic 1/2-mile oval has produced some of the most memorable events in series history. Following a recent victory, Nick Latham, grandson of the late Ralph Latham, leads the current Florence Speedway championship standings. Latham, along with many other Florence Speedway aces and regional standouts will battle the stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in pursuit of the $12,000 top prize.
