Tyler Thompson Scores Top-Ten Finish In Short Track Super Series Sportsman Debut
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / TEAM TAPOUT RACING – GEORGETOWN, DE – Tyler Thompson took on Delaware’s Georgetown Speedway and the competitive Short Track Super Series for the first time on Saturday evening and ended the night with a solid 10th place effort in a field of over 50 602-Sportsman machines.
Driving in his first outdoor event of the season, Thompson wheeled his No. 98T Team Tapout/Troyer Race Cars machine to a second-place finish in his qualifying heat race to earn a redraw position in the night’s 25-lap main event.
With a redraw of eight, Thompson started the main event from outside of row four and battled hard all night on the big and fast Georgetown oval to lock himself into the top-ten at race’s end.
“We went with the hard compound right rear tire and unfortunately there were too many cautions, too early, and we struggled to get the tires to fire,” said Thompson. “The longer we went, the better we were. For the first time here, against this competition, it’s a good way to start our Sportsman season.”
Alex Yankowski won the 602-Sportsman main ahead of a stellar top-ten finishing order including Steve Kemery, Adam McAuliffe, Shayne Spoonhower, Connor King, Cole Stangle, Dave Marcuccilli, Brad Roberts, Dan Fleming, and Thompson.
Thompson will next travel to York, PA for the Northeast Motorsports Expo & Races with his Slack Karts machines on March 24-25.
