Bridgeport & Georgetown Join Forces For ‘Southern Swing Weekend’ September 29th-30th
Story By: BRETT DEYO / GEORGETOWN SPEEDWAY – BRIDGEPORT, NJ – South Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway and Delaware’s Georgetown Speedway have joined forces for a lucrative big-block/small-block Modified weekend on September 29-30.
The American Racer ‘Southern Swing Weekend’ offers two high-paying events and a weekend point fund for Modified competitors.
On Friday night (September 29), Georgetown hosts the 30-lap ‘September Showdown’ Modified event with $3,000 going to the winner and $250 just to take the green flag.
Bridgeport swings open the gates on Saturday (September 30) for ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ paying a hefty $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag for 40 laps around the five-eighths-mile oval.
The ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ is Round No. 7 of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Velocita-USA South Region.
To reward competitors, a $1,500 two-day point fund has been established.
The top-five drivers accruing points from Friday and Saturday nights will share in the following cash: 1) $500; 2) $400; 3) $300; 4) $200; 5) $100. Drivers must be present both Friday and Saturday to be eligible for the money.
Joining the Modifieds on Friday at Georgetown are the L&J Sheet Metal Crate 602 Sportsman, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
On Saturday at Bridgeport, the Crate/Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks fill out the card.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
