Annual Lyle Sherwood Memorial For Modifieds Saturday At Woodhull
Story By: STEVEN OVENS / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Griffith Energy joins Woodhull Raceway in remembering a Woodhull legend, with the 13th annual Lyle Sherwood Memorial. The event is held in memory of the driver of the famous No. 17, who tragically lost his life in 2005 while competing in Modified competition at the Steuben County third-mile.
The very first Sherwood Memorial was held later on in the very same season that Sherwood passed away, making 2017 the 13th annual event. Big Block and Small Block Modifieds will compete for 25 laps, paying $1,700 to the victor. All modifieds will be required to weigh a minimum of 2,400 pounds, regardless of engine.
The event format for all classes will be a draw, redraw for the top twelve qualifiers. Also on the racing card will be Crate Sportsman, Crate Late Models, Open Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and Woodhull Youth Warriors. The fourth and final Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Clash for Cash of 2017 will also be decided.
A reminder to all fans and teams that all fall shows at Woodhull take the green flag at 5:30pm.
Fans can find their way into the grandstands Saturday at 3:30 for only $15 for adults 13 and up. Seniors 65+ and Students age 8-12 will pay a reduced price of $8. Children 7 and under will be free of charge. Free camping is offered on the speedway grounds for those wishing to stay over and camp and make a weekend of it with friends and family.
