Triple Crown Championship Series Turns Focus To Oswego’s Int’l Classic Weekend

Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – OSWEGO, NY – The world’s richest and longest Supermodified race is now the focus of the Shea Concrete Triple Crown Championship Series presented by ASI Racewear, as the cars and stars of the ultimate Supermodified championship begin preparations for the Budweiser International Classic 200 at Oswego Speedway.

With eight TCCS events in the books, including the first Triple Crown event at Sandusky Speedway, the Oswego Classic emerges as the next double point event on the schedule with valuable points and money on the line.

Dave Shullick Jr. has been in control of the Bentley Warren Driver of the Year standings since the season opened at Oswego on May 13 and he now holds an 85-point lead on Mike Muldoon as the tour returns to Oswego on Sunday, September 3. While an 85-point advantage is steep, double points can change that margin in a hurry.

Shullick has indicated via social media that his total focus through Classic Weekend will be solely on non-wing Supermodified action, driving only the John Nicotra Racing No. 2 through September 3. The Bodnar Motorsports winged Supermodifieds will not return to action until the Star Speedway Classic on September 9, which will finish the lucrative TCCS season.

High point men Shullick, Muldoon, Otto Sitterly, Jeff Abold, and Joey Payne will also turn their focus solely to Oswego in the next three weeks to prepare for the 200 and they will be joined by fellow TCCS followers Tim Snyder and Joe Gosek.

Dave Danzer, Tim Jedrzejek, and Dave McKnight will have slightly less time to prepare for the Oswego Classic as they will compete in a flurry of ISMA events before Labor Day Weekend with trips to Lee USA, Waterford, and Delaware International.

While Shullick has been in control of the driver championship all season, Muldoon Racing has emerged as the new favorite in the Supermodified championship with their No. 15 machine.

Muldoon Racing holds a 75-point lead in that portion of the championship heading back to Oswego leading Team Abold Racing, who thrust themselves into the championship conversation with a stellar weekend at Sandusky in the No. 05.

A finish of ninth in the Hy-Miler 100 at Sandusky has Team Abold Racing and driver Jeff Abold running second in the Supermodified championship. The defending champions of Oswego’s Budweiser International Classic, the Abold team is in prime position to make a run at the title over the course of the last two races of the season.

The Penix Racing 14 with Joey Payne at the controls has moved to third in the Jim Shampine Supermodified of the Year championship with the Danzer Racing No. 52 and the Snyder Racing No. 0 finishing the top five with 200-laps next on tap for the TCCS at Oswego.
