Jeff McGinnis Takes Win In Monday Madness Event At Ransomville
Story By: STEVE PETTY / RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY – RANSOMVILLE, NY – Jeff McGinnis from Ransomville, NY won the Krown Undercoating Modified feature as Randy’s Smoke Shop and Investors Service presented #MondayMadness at the Ransomville Speedway on a sun-sational Monday evening. For McGinnis, it was his first victory of the season.
Derek Wagner from Middleport, NY scored his second Investors Service Sportsman feature of the season. North Tonawanda, NY’s Jake Stefanski won his third KiPo Chevrolet Street Stock feature of the season. “Mr. Peanut” Ryan Plante from Grand Island, NY won his first Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers feature of the season. Cameron Tuttle from Wilson, NY scored his fifth Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman feature of the season.
John Smith and Steve Lewis Jr brought the field of Krown Undercoating Modifieds to the green for their feature with Smith showing the way. Jeff McGinnis caught Steve Lewis for second place as Rick Richner was being challenged by 13-time Ransomville track champion Pete Bicknell. McGinnis would take second away from Lewis on lap five, and “Mr. Small Block” would then go after Lewis for third place with Erick Rudolph and Ryan Susice racing behind them. Bicknell would continue his march towards the front as he went after McGinnis and Smith for the lead. McGinnis would take the lead from Smith on lap 12, with Bicknell following suit to take second away just one lap later. Ryan Susice would pass Rudolph and Richner to move into fourth place on lap 18, just as Bicknell started to close in on McGinnis. Susice would take third away from Smith on lap 19. McGinnis and Bicknell would put on a battle for the ages for the lead in the final ten circuits. Jeff McGinnis would hold off Bicknell to score the win. Ryan Susice, Erick Rudolph and Tommy Flannigan completed the top five.
Brett Martin and Garrison Krentz led the field of Investors Service Sportsman with Krentz in the lead. Derrick Borkenhagen and Mike Williams came together in turn three to bring out the races first caution on lap three. On the restart, Krentz would continue to show the way over Martin with Kevin Wills, Tony Muscato and Zack Sam racing in the top five. Kevin Wills would take second away from Martin on lap seven and would go after Krentz for the lead. Krentz would lead Wills by 6/10’s of a second on the halfway mark. Wills would take the lead on lap 14. Tony Muscato spun in turn four and Brett Senek had nowhere to go, and hit the turn four wall on lap 15 to bring out the races’ second caution. Wills would take off on the restart, with Krentz, Martin and Derek Wagner in the top four. Noah Walker hit the turn three wall and Derrick Borkenhagen had no where to go and collided into Walker to bring out the red flag on lap 16. Both drivers were alright and climbed out of their racecars under their own power. Wills would continue to lead on the restart as Matt Farnham passed both Wagner and Martin to move into third place. Krentz would challenge Wills for the lead but Wills would hold him off and would appear to cross the line first, but Wills was light at the scales. Second place finisher Garrison Krentz was also light at the scales, giving the win to third place finisher Derek Wagner. For Wagner, it was his second win of the season.
Pat O’Keefe and Brandon Sherwood were on the front row for the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks 20 lap feature event with Sherwood, the former track champion taking the lead, but it was “Showtime” Jaren Israel taking the lead at the end of lap one. Jake Stefanski would take the lead away from Israel at the line on lap four, as they continued to battle and swap the lead for several circuits. Sherwood and Billy Bleich Jr raced closely behind the lead duo. Stefanski would clear Israel for the lead on lap eight as Billy Bleich Jr battled with Israel for second. Bleich would close the gap and would battle Jake Stefanski for the lead. Bleich would look underneath Stefanski with Bleich taking the lead on lap 13. Bleich would take the borrowed Reece Motorsports 11jr to his second Ransomville win of the season. Jake Stefanski, Jaren Israel, Sherwood and Pete Stefanski completed the top five. Bleich was disqualified in postrace tech, giving the win to Jake Stefanski.
Brandon Potter and Ryan Plante set the pace for the Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers 15 lap feature with Potter taking the lead with Plante, Nick Tarnowski, Matt Hornquist and Ashley Blech raced in the top five. While racing in third, Tarnowski got loose and spun in turn three to bring out the races first caution on lap four. On the restart, Plante would take the lead as Cole Susice took second away from Potter. After hitting the turn two wall, Brandon Potter slowed on the back straightaway to bring out the caution on lap eight. Plante would continue to lead over Susice with Chad Desso and Chris Leone raced inside the top four. Plante would go onto score the win, his first of the season.
Adam Harris and Cam Tuttle were on the front row for the main event for the Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman with Tuttle showing the way over Robbie Johnston and Bubby Pawlak racing inside the top three. David Fingerlow slowed on the outside of turn two to bring out the races first caution on lap three. The restart would see Tuttle jump into the lead over Johnston and Kyle Wendt, who raced inside the top three after starting dead last on the field. Johnston would close in on Tuttle near the halfway mark, but Tuttle was able to keep the lead. Tuttle would drive away from the field to score the win, his fifth of the season. Kyle Wendt finished in second with Bubby Pawlak, Orval Harris and Zack George completed the top five. Orval Harris was disqualified for being light at the scales, and Austin Hauser was credited with the fifth place finish.
NEWS AND NOTES: 71 cars signed in pitside on the #MondayMadness event. Novice Sportsman racer Kyle Wendt hit the turn one wall hard during pre-race warm-ups. Young race fans had the chance to be on the track and take a ride of a lifetime during the Kids Rides! Hoosier Racing Tires gave away one free tire to a lucky Sportsman driver. Friday racing will continue at Ransomville on Friday, August 25th as Moley Magnetics presents the second visit of the season by the Patriot Sprint Tour! The PST will be joined by the Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 Bangers and Novice Sportsman. The pit gates will open at 5:00pm with grandstands at 6:00pm with showtime at 7:15pm
